MVRDV brings more than 30 years of experience in architecture, urban design and sustainable rooftop transformation to MultiRoofs. Combining design, research and technology, the internationally active practice has extensive experience in creating green, multifunctional and resilient urban spaces, from built projects and urban visions to temporary rooftop installations. Through its research and development unit, MVRDV NEXT, the team also brings expertise in data, AI, Digital Twins and software development, building on initiatives such as RoofScape Rotterdam, a platform designed to assess rooftop potential and support resilient rooftop policies.

Within MultiRoofs, MVRDV plays a key role in shaping the project’s Digital Twin, helping to develop a common and flexible data framework that can respond to the different contexts and datasets of cities across North-West Europe. Working closely with the project’s technology partners, MVRDV contributes to the conceptual design of the tool, its user experience and graphical interface, translating complex data into accessible and actionable insights for public authorities and other stakeholders. The team also brings its architectural expertise to explore and visualise different rooftop possibilities, test the tool through case studies and support the implementation of rooftop solutions. Finally, MVRDV shares its international experience through workshops, lectures and training activities, helping cities and regions build the capacity to adopt multifunctional and climate-resilient rooftop strategies.
